People Skills - the long running project of Philadelphia's Jesse Dewlow - has spent close to two decades tuned to that lower, stranger frequency, and Several Years Later may be the fullest transmission he has yet let out of the room. Since the mid 2000s, Dewlow has worked at the seam where a song comes apart into weather. Repetitive guitar figures, idle tape phenomena, sound residue, voices sunk far beneath the surface - materials gathered under the sign of his Heresy Museum and set loose in shapes that feel hallucinated rather than assembled. For years his late father's untrained photography has shadowed this work, and it does so again here: image and sound as two parallel streams of private evidence, drifting toward the same unnamed place.
Nine pieces, no wasted movement. The eleven minute opener, Four Curling Corners of Your Soul, eases the door open with the sound of an approaching storm folded inside a ballad. What follows is a guitar record that behaves like an old refrigerator cycling through a distant shortwave signal. Instruments circle themselves without hurry. Voices surface and withdraw. Rooms open into further rooms, until the line between what is played and what is merely remembered stops mattering entirely - every gesture carrying Discreet's signature weld of beauty and grit. There is a nod, tart and deliberate, toward Georges Bataille on the caves at Lascaux, and it earns its place. This is homemade music that trusts intuition over intention, the happy accident over the clean take. Its deepest kinship may be with the oldest image making of all: figures drawn by firelight on stone, meant less to depict than to conjure. Heard this way, the buried voices and the failing tape are no lo fi affect but a far older impulse - the mark left in the dark to prove someone was here. A quiet, singular thing that keeps opening, room after room, long after you thought you had reached the end.
