Adrian Moore’s works from 2019 to 2024: five wt_ pieces each built from one source (a ceramic pot, a bird whistle, a wine glass, metal sheets, voices) with the same Pure Data toolkit, plus two Sheffield-area site pieces on industrial noise and change. CD-R.

Soulignement_ is an album in two parts by Adrian Moore, composed in his Sheffield studio between 2019 and 2024. The first and larger part is a set of pieces that each focus on a single sound source; the second holds two works tied to a place and a moment. Moore is interested in the craft of electroacoustic music, in shared tools and shared listening, and the underscore pieces were all made with the same set of Pure Data patches, the USSStoolskit, so that the differences between sources can be heard against the same techniques of granulation and mixing.

The five wt_ pieces keep their working titles, written the way he names files. wt_ceramics uses a large ceramic plant pot played in the studio and outdoors, wt_birds sets a bird whistle in an imaginary forest, wt_glass comes from a wine-glass rubbing session whose noisier sounds surprised him, and wt_metals rubs, scrapes and flexes two metal sheets, sometimes leaving their inharmonic resonances untouched. Mario Cáceres helped record the pot, the whistle and the metal. wt_voices2 is a more textural companion to Voices in the Dark (2023), a piece about sounds trying to find a voice, finalist at Musica Nova in 2023. These six can be played separately or as a suite in any combination.

Audiogentry uses field recordings made by staff and students at Kelham Island Museum, from the huge River Don Engine to the hand saws of a wood-turning factory nearby, and turns their noise into pitch and pulse, partly through side-chain compression borrowed from dance music. Recording the Hepworth captures The Hepworth Wakefield in early 2019, as construction began on a new garden designed by Tom Stuart-Smith: levelling machines, percussion drills, the river and the quiet interior spaces.

Born in Nottingham in 1969, Moore studied at City University in London and with Jonty Harrison in Birmingham, composing for BEAST. He is Professor of Electroacoustic Music Composition at the University of Sheffield.
