Doors, footsteps, traffic, weather, crowds, machinery, each band separated by a few seconds of silence for the amateur dramatics society or the film student with a razor blade. The BBC effects library was the world's largest and its LP series ran to more than thirty volumes; No. 13, Death and Horror, famously charted.
