Asmus Tietchens

Asmus Tietchens (born 1947, Hamburg), who also records under the monikers Hematic Sunsets and Club of Rome, is a German composer of avant-garde music. Tietchens became interested in experimental music and musique concrete as a child, and began recording sound experiments in 1965 with electronic musical instruments, synthesizers and tape loops.  His early recordings feature more accessible synthesized music, but beginning with Formen Letzer Hausmusik, his 1984 release for Nurse With Wound's label United Dairies, he began moving toward more abstract sound collages. He has taught acoustics in Hamburg since 1990.

Motives For Recycling
2024 stock. The fashionable term “remix” is often based on a misunderstanding. To re-mix a piece of music means to mix all tracks of a multi-track recording in a new way. Putting the complete piece (the sum of all tracks) through the wringer means “recycling”. Before starting the recycling two questions might arise: “Why recycle this piece?” and “Are the structure and sound of the piece convenient for recycling?” The ability to answer these questions depends more or less on the artist’s percepti…

Die Höfner Akten
Tip! New collaborative work by two veterans of the European experimental scene, Dirk Serries + Asmus Tietchens. Dirk Serries and I have long been colleagues and friends. "Die Höfner Akten" are something new and special to in so far as the source material with its basic structure has been improvised exclusively on an acoustic guitar (of the 'Höfner' brand). Dirk and I had agreed upon the follo…

Music For The Williamson Tunnels (A Collection Of The Sound Of Dripping Water)
Music For The Williamson Tunnels: A Collection Of The Sound Of Dripping Water As Brian Eno made music for environments rather than from them (Music For Airports) these CDs are best listened to within the strange damp world of the Williamson Tunnels in Liverpool. It is a sound that has intrigued artists for nigh on a century and this collection brings together historical piece…
