A collaboration between Asmus Tietchens and his long-standing producer Okko Bekker, released in 1988 on the Dom imprint (cat. DOM V 77-05) that had produced Hirsche Nicht Aufs Sofa and related Cologne-Aachen experimental releases. Tietchens and Bekker had met in the 1970s and worked together ever since: Bekker produced Tietchens's debut LP Nachtstücke (1980) and several subsequent Sky Records releases under the pseudonym Rokko Ekbek, and the E collaboration is the most fully realised of their explicitly shared credits.
Six pieces across the LP ("Patterns," "Zu Traurigem Behuf," "Repartition Concrète" on side A; "Studie Für Bassklarinette Und Zuspielband," "Kinematograph," "Zeitlinien" on side B), with first pressings including a bonus 7" titled U (which contained two additional pieces eventually absorbed into the subsequent CD reissue). Recorded at Bekker's Audiplex Studios in Hamburg between March 1986 and May 1987, with additional material composed and produced in 1987 for a VPRO (Dutch public radio) radio play titled Wasser Will.
The record occupies a distinct place in the Tietchens discography: less austere than his solo Selektion releases, more rigorously compositional than the early Sky Records synth-pop of Biotop and Litia. The CD reissue on aufabwegen (in co-release with Die Stadt, as part of the Tietchens reissue series) restored both LP and 7" contents plus two unreleased tracks from the same period, in an edition of 600 copies.
