Avant-garde compositions for accordion performed by William Schimmel and released on Ilhan Mimaroglu's experimental Finnadar label in 1984.

condition (record/cover): NM / VG+ (light wear)

An unusual and entertaining document from Finnadar Records: a compilation of works for accordion by Henry Cowell, Otto Luening, Eric Salzman, Max Lifchitz, Wallingford Riegger, Patrick Hardish, Carlos Surinach, and William Schimmel. Schimmel was the commissioning force behind much of this material, a virtuoso committed to expanding the concert accordion's repertoire beyond its folk and popular associations. The result is a record that documents both the instrument's possibilities and the willingness of American composers to engage with it seriously - Cowell's contribution, characteristically, treating the accordion as just another sound-producing mechanism with its own inherent possibilities.
