condition (record/cover): VG (record looks near mint but has surface noise throughout) / EX-  Oversize gatefold sleeve - no magazine. An important document of Italian post-war modernism from the prestigious educational series! Niccolò Castiglioni (1932-1996), one of Italy's most refined and poetic composers, presents Tropi - a work revealing his characteristic sensitivity to timbre and his ability to merge avant-garde techniques with lyrical impulse. Castiglioni studied with Goffredo Petrassi and Boris Blacher, developing a distinctive voice that balanced structural rigor with expressive immediacy. Paired with works by Boris Porena (1927-2014): Movimento Continuato and Musica per Quartetto d'Archi. Porena, also a Petrassi student, contributed significantly to Italian contemporary music as both composer and theorist, exploring serial techniques and their expressive possibilities.
