Krzysztof Penderecki
Krzysztof Penderecki (1933-2020) was a Polish composer and conductor, born in Dębica. He came to international attention in the early 1960s with Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima for 52 strings, part of a body of work built on tone clusters, extended techniques and graphic notation. From the mid-1970s he moved toward a tonal language. His music reached a wide audience through films by Stanley Kubrick, William Friedkin and David Lynch. Krzysztof Penderecki taught at the Kraków music academy from 1958, which took his name in 2020, and at the Yale School of Music from the mid-1970s.
