The French Adès pressing of the Second Symphony - a different distribution channel for the same work covered in the Muza pressing (SX 2310) and the EMI Electrola edition (067 EL). The Adès label had a consistent presence in the French contemporary music market and provided access to Polish and Eastern European recordings that might otherwise have remained confined to their countries of origin. The musical content - Krzysztof Penderecki's neo-Romantic pivot, the "Silent Night" quotation heard three times in the score, the premiere conducted by Zubin Mehta with the New York Philharmonic on 1 May 1980 - is discussed at length in the Muza entry. This pressing is for collectors requiring the French edition or working through the complete pressing history of the symphony. Original Adès pressing.
