Musica Elettronica Viva began in Rome in 1966 as a collective of American composers improvising with homemade electronics and amplified objects. This 7" documents a reunion concert at Philgena in Oakland on 11 February 1994, with founders Alvin Curran on piano and electronics, Richard Teitelbaum on electronics and Frederic Rzewski on piano, joined by George Lewis on trombone and electronics.
The two pieces, Funeral Rites for Sixty-Foot Gum Cat and Dialogue for Magnetic Sewers, about seven minutes each, move between dense electronic noise and sudden open spaces for piano and trombone. Issued in 1995 by Stomach Ache in a black and white picture sleeve.
