Psychic TV

Paramartha is Psychic TV live at Pandora's Music Box, the festival held at De Doelen in Rotterdam, on 22 September 1984. The concert first surfaced in 1985 on two unofficial Dutch LPs, Paramartha and Unclean, each holding part of the set. In 2012 Cold Spring remastered and cleaned the sound from both sources, presenting the full show officially for the first time.

The participants were Genesis P-Orridge, Alex Fergusson, Paul Reeson, nicknamed Grimsby, and John Gosling, who also recorded as Zos Kia. This was Psychic TV in 1984, the year of Pagan Day and of the singles Unclean and Roman P. Gosling also played in the early Coil, as the Cold Spring notes for the Haçienda concert point out. The sleeve thanks Frank Vink.

The six tracks last about forty minutes. Southern Comfort opens, followed by Godstar, the song about the Rolling Stones' Brian Jones that, as Compulsion recalls, became a minor chart single the following year. Unclean and a nine-minute Ov Power lead to Alright, the longest piece at almost twelve minutes. A one-minute Jungle ends the record. The same four players appeared at the Haçienda in Manchester six weeks later, a show built on tapes, spare drums and guitar under P-Orridge's improvised vocals.

The first bootleg LP, also called Paramartha, was pressed in Holland in 300 hand-numbered copies on black vinyl. Discogs credits it to Solide Sentimental, a near-namesake of Sordide Sentimental, the label that had issued the official Roman P. single in 1984. The second, Unclean, appeared on a label called Paradox, and a cassette from the same show also circulated. Cold Spring had already reissued the 1984 album Those Who Do Not on CD in 1997. This disc came out in 2012 alongside Ov Power and Batschkapp, and was followed that year by Live at Thee Ritz and in 2013 by the complete Haçienda concert. The label's notes describe the result as the full live show, not heard before in its entirety.

CD released by Cold Spring (CSR161CD) in February 2012, remastered from the two 1985 bootleg sources into the complete concert in six tracks. It is the first official release of this recording.
