Balance Point Acoustics proudly announces the release of "Two Felt-Tip Pens: Live At Moers," a strikingly original album recorded live at the renowned Moers Festival in Germany and dedicated to the late Hans Schneider (1951–2024). The release features the adventurous trio of German saxophonist Stefan Keune, American guitarist Sandy Ewen, and acclaimed bassist and label curator Damon Smith, three master improvisers converging in an equilateral triangle of spontaneous sonic exploration.
"Two Felt-Tip Pens: Live At Moers" finds its inspiration not only in the personal artistic connections of the musicians—Keune’s long-standing collaborations with Schneider and the dynamic partnership between Smith and Ewen—but also from Schneider’s own artwork, which provides both the evocative cover image and the titles for each piece: "Cream/Butter," "Oil," "Red Wine," and "Salt".
The album’s opening track, "Cream/Butter," embarks on a nearly 20-minute journey marked by restless energy and evolving textures: Keune’s saxophone chirps and trills in conversation with the percussive guitar approaches of Ewen and the elastic, shape-shifting bass lines of Smith. The trio’s interplay ebbs and surges, alternating between density and spaciousness. The result is a collection of music that truly embodies the spirit of collective improvisation—free of cliches, unbound by conventions, pulsing with invention and risk.
A moving tribute to Schneider’s legacy and a testament to the transformative power of free improvised music, "Two Felt-Tip Pens: Live At Moers" turns fleeting moments into lasting sonic joy—a release that both honors tradition and points the way forward for creative music. Now available on CD and digital download from Balance Point Acoustics.
