Toshiya Tsunoda

Toshiya Tsunoda (born 1964) is a Japanese sound and installation artist based in Yokohama. He trained as a painter, with an MFA in oil painting from the Tokyo University of the Arts, and works mainly with field recording. His recordings examine the sound of places that seem still or inert, often using small or contact microphones to pick up vibrations in the air inside hollow objects and in solid surfaces. Tsunoda co-founded the WrK label with Minoru Sato (m/s) in 1994, and the label issued his Extract From Field Recording Archive #1 in 1997.
