Commissioned by the European Broadcasting Union, this work is a fusion of modern classical, free jazz, and electronic music that reflects Henze's socialist political engagement of the era. It symbolically depicts the struggle of a left-wing intellectual attempting to navigate the temptations of the "bourgeoisie".
