Strictly speaking an Austrian record, and a recent one. Westblock belonged to Vienna's late New Wave and post-punk scene but never managed an album in their day; Die Westblock Cede finally gathers old and new songs, recorded in the studio decades later, after the 2010 compilation Neonbeats revived interest in that corner of Austrian music.
The sound has settled into something nearer morbid lounge music than youthful punk, bitter and cynical, sung in broad Viennese dialect, which makes it a largely local pleasure. Issued in a limited run of three hundred by the Vienna label Klanggalerie. One for students of the German-speaking new-wave underground.
