Gatefold sleeve.
The most sought-after release in the Shandar catalogue and one of the few recordings La Monte Young ever authorised. Two sides, total duration in the title. Side A is 13 I 73 5:35-6:14:03 PM NYC, recorded at Young's private studio on that date and time: a sub-section of the multi-decade composition Map of 49's Dream The Two Systems of Eleven Sets of Galactic Intervals Ornamental Lightyears Tracery (begun 1966 inside the larger The Tortoise, His Dreams and Journeys of 1964). The later Theatre of Eternal Music here is Young (voice, electronics), Zazeela (voice), Jon Hassell (trumpet) and Garrett List (trombone), against a sine-wave drone.
Side B is Drift Study 14 VII 73 9:27:27-10:06:41 PM NYC: three sine waves whose frequencies and voltages were determined by Young using custom oscillators built by Robert Adler for maximum stability. Phase relationships drift slowly over forty minutes; the listener's body becomes the resonator. Gatefold sleeve with Zazeela calligraphy and liner notes by Young and the French musicologist Daniel Caux, who ran Shandar.
