This album -- one of his many for PSF -- is a series excerpts from recordings made in New York with his avant-garde sympathizers in the land of the free. Elliott Sharp and Butch Morris contribute stunning performances, as does Tokyo ex-pat Ikue Mori, on this collection of highlights from an American sojourn. Holding court with such heavyweights of the improvisation world was not new to Motoharu Yoshizawa, who throughout his career collaborated with some of the biggest names in the genre, Derek Bailey, Barre Phillips, and Steve Lacy among them. While PSF has published many great recordings of his astute free improvisation, he is sadly under-acknowledged as a master of his instrument. In his lifetime he received the unconditional adoration of a select few -- mainly fellow musicians -- and this recording is a chapter in immortalizing his genius as one of Japan's most vital practitioners of avant-garde jazz.
