Out of Bielefeld came Creative Rock, a band that started life playing Anglo-American brass rock and ended up, on Lady Pig (1974), as something heavier and stranger. Their second and final album was cut at Conny Plank's studio, trading some of the horn-driven jazz of the debut for harder guitar, the Greek-born Apostolos Papanikolaou sharpening the attack.
Saxophone and organ still color the long instrumental stretches, but the mood is murkier and more willing to lurch. The group folded the following year after touring a self-styled rock-ballet revue. A footnote in the Brain catalogue, and a likeable one. The Brain pressing.
