Narassa was Sandro Brugnolini, the Roman saxophonist and arranger whose Underground, Utopia and the Narassa albums for Rotary and others are pillars of the Italian library canon. Made in U.S.A. is his America record: cues built on funk and soul-jazz templates, Rhodes, clavinet, wah guitar and a rhythm section that could have been booked in Memphis, with the electronics that were his signature sneaking in around the edges.
Brugnolini had led big bands in the fifties and knew the American idiom from the inside, which is why this sounds less like an imitation than like a colleague's reply. Arision pressing.
