2007 release **  ""non potho reposare" is the title of a Sardinian folk song, but none of these songs, however old they may be, should be relegated to oblivion. hence the meaning and title of the work: a reinterpretation of folk songs, some of which are very popular and almost "inflated", others more refined. however, roberto and paola never fall into the obvious, despite the minimal instrumentation: voice, a bit of accordion, double bass, no effects. the two artists have approached this material armed with respect and authentic inspiration. paola sabbatani (who has a varied artistic background, between theater and song) unleashes a powerful and passionate voice, like a commoner, and accompanies herself with the bass of the accordion; but the arrangement is the prerogative of bartoli, an anarchist from imola, who confirms himself as one of the best italian double bass players around. roberto is a great contaminator, but here he contains his jazz or ethnic virtuosity so as not to distort the songs, supporting himself almost only with his classical preparation. the double bass, a difficult instrument, "sings" and thus constitutes the aesthetic peculiarity of the album. it is difficult to go into the specifics of the individual songs, also because of the load of subjective emotions that they are able to unleash. we only point out that after numerous listens, new nuances are discovered that are able to give further sensations. the cd is accompanied by the dvd "non posso riposa": between recordings, improvisations and convivial gatherings in roberto bartoli's house, immersed in the countryside, the two artists talk about the project, the urgency of re-proposing this repertoire, never so current in its contents (and in musical interpretation, we add). other characters enter the discussion: the journalist of la repubblica gianni mura, claudio mazzolani, massimo ortalli and tomaso marabini from the historical archive of the fai, marco pandin from stella nera. the dvd thus becomes a documentary on popular song in general and anarchist in particular, with plenty of "archive memorabilia". overall, a work that is good for the heart and mind."
