Original 1982 Canadian edition of the fourth volume of "acoustical environmental sound experiences without music or voice" recorded by film-maker Dan Gibson and released on his Dan Gibson Productions Ltd. label with recordings made at Niagara Falls.
condition (record/cover): NM / NM
The fourth volume of Dan Gibson's series, still before the music was added: Canadian wilderness in long takes, water, wind, birds, the space between them left intact. Gibson's editing was minimal and his microphone technique was that of a filmmaker, framing a sound the way he would frame a shot, and the records reward playing loud, when the depth of field becomes apparent.
The Solitudes albums were the moment when environmental recording crossed from the natural history record into the domestic hi-fi, a step that ambient music was taking at exactly the same time. Canadian pressing.
