Guild For Human Music was released in November 1976 by Denon Jazz, the jazz imprint of Nippon Columbia. It is one of the key records of the Japanese free jazz percussionist and composer Masahiko Togashi, who after an accident in 1970 had rebuilt his playing around a kit of percussion and space, and here leads a percussion-heavy ensemble through six compositions titled 'First Expression' to 'Sixth Expression'.
With him are two other percussionists, Sabu Toyozumi and Tatsuji Yokoyama, three woodwind players, Masami Nakagawa, Shigeo Suzuki and Hideo Miyata, Masahiko Satoh on keyboards on two pieces, Keiki Midorikawa on cello and bass and Yoshio Ikeda on bass. It was recorded on 23, 24, 26 and 27 May 1976 at Nippon Columbia's first studio in Tokyo, using the company's early PCM digital recording, and the original came in a tip-on sleeve with obi and liner notes by Kiyoshi Koyama.
