Nicola Di Croce - Hearing Voices  (Vertical Music 04)

"Craco is a small town in southern Italy, completely abandoned after a landslide in 1963. Since then, plants and animals slowly started to take over the ruins, creating a suspended atmosphere magnified by distant echoes coming from rural production and imaginary voices."  Nicola Di Croce is a Venice based, musician, composer, architect and scholar. His main research deals with the relation between territory and sound. He follows the idea that listening and field recording practices lead together to a new perception of the environment, and fragments to be re-mixed become an essential tool for the understanding and the redefinition of the surrounding space.

Shuta Hiraki - 絹雲 Cirrus (Vertical Music 05)

"Sounds drifting or hiding in the area in which I live. A vacant lot, a port at midnight, broken furniture, childhood toys, voices of machines. Overlooked, abandoned and malfunctioning sounds. Sometimes I record them, sometimes I miss them. 2014-2018, Nagasaki, Japan."

Shuta Hiraki, a Japanese electronic musician who was born in 1990 and lives in Nagasaki, Japan, has publicized his own works under the pseudonym obalto since 2014. Influenced by drone-based ambient music in the latter half of the 2000s, he started to create ambient/drone music himself centering on various field recordings and processed sounds.

Alyssa Moxley - Underdrift  (Vertical Music 03)

Early spring on the volcanic island of Nisyros, Greece: Bees swarm over almond trees on the caldera's edge. On the fertile crater soil, livestock graze. Mud pits burble and sulfur vents puff out thick vapor clouds. Solitary men ring the bells, call to their animals, and sing to themselves. Scops owls and bats call into the night.  "This volcano music is so good, we even want to listen to it during a heat wave. From grazing sheep to subterranean rumbles, Moxley’s field recordings are a geographical audio-biopic featuring a cast of compelling characters." (A Closer Listen, Recommendation List)

Alyssa Moxley is an artist that works with sound, listening, memory, and environment. Her works include field recording, musical composition, film sound design, live improvised performance, interactive sculpture and sonic interventions in public space.
