Original European edition of the 1987 LP on Elektra Nonesuch with a new recording of the classic Minimalist composition from 1971 inspired by Ghana's drumming and Indonesia's gamelan.

condition (record/cover): NM / NM

The third commercial recording of Reich's 1971 percussion epic, after the 1971 Mainstream debut and the 1974 Deutsche Grammophon box. Recorded May 1987 at RCA Studio A in New York, engineered by Paul Goodman, produced by Judith Sherman and Reich, mastered by Bob Ludwig. The Nonesuch sessions used the digital recording chain that had just become standard, which gives the percussion a clarity earlier analogue documents could not match.

Steve Reich and Musicians here: Bob Becker, Ben Harms, Russ Hartenberger, Garry Kvistad, James Preiss, Gary Schall, Glen Velez, Thad Wheeler, plus Reich. Voices by Pamela Wood Ambush and Jay Clayton, piccolo by Mort Silver, whistling by Reich himself. Cover art by Beryl Korot (Reich's wife, the video artist, here showing a detail of her 1982 Babel Text in oil on hand-woven canvas). Design Carin Goldberg.
