A transatlantic power-electronics collaboration between Mark Solotroff, the Chicago figure whose extensive catalogue includes Intrinsic Action (since 1988), BLOODYMINDED (since 1995), Anatomy Of Habit, and The Fortieth Day, and Sshe Retina Stimulants, the solo project Paolo L. Bandera has been running since 1993 in parallel with his Sigillum S and Iugula-Thor work.
The working axis between Chicago and Milan is an essential strand of American-Italian power-electronics history. Solotroff and Bandera had collaborated earlier through Ensemble Sacrés Garçons, the post-industrial trio the two of them had founded with Andrea Chiaravalli (Iugula-Thor) in 1994, recording between Milan and New York and mixing at Bass Mind Studio in Brooklyn. The Ensemble Sacrés Garçons CD on Old Europa Cafe (1995) established the template Solotroff and Bandera would continue refining across multiple configurations.
The straight Solotroff / Sshe Retina Stimulants duo documents, as distinct from the Ensemble Sacrés Garçons trio, extend the same method into an even more concentrated two-person interaction: overlapping analogue synth beds, layered processed vocal work, feedback arcs, and the particular American-Italian power-electronics vocabulary that made Chicago (BLOODYMINDED, Intrinsic Action) and Milan (Sigillum S, Iugula-Thor, Sshe Retina Stimulants) the two operational poles of the extreme electronics scene across the Nineties.
