Quelques Reflets documents a sabbatical year that Pierre Alexandre Tremblay spent travelling between August 2009 and July 2010: four 5.1-channel works, each composed during a residency in the studio that commissioned it, then refined in May 2011 at the University of Huddersfield and mastered by Dominique Bassal in Montréal. A fifth piece, the videomusic Walk That Way. Tuesday, Turn. (2006), completes the disc, which won the Prix Opus 2010-11 for record of the year.
Reflets de notre société crépusculaire, commissioned by Ina-GRM and premiered at the Maison de Radio France in 2009, sets a line by Emil Cioran against one by Margaret Mead to express his unease at being happy at the expense of the rest of the planet. Ces énigmes lumineuses, made for Miso Music Portugal in Lisbon, turns to small moments when time slows down, on a park bench or in the sun, borrowing its title from Daniel Pennac. For Ever Now Soon an End, commissioned by the Technische Universität Berlin and premiered at the Ultraschall festival, begins from a dream at 45 degrees in the shade in a sea of sand, with an epigraph from Milan Kundera.
Les trois petits c…, written at Métamorphoses d’Orphée for Musiques & Recherches and dedicated to Hilke Bahmann, who took part in the recording sessions, is an ode to the resilience of women. Its working title was “A Woman in Berlin”, after a young woman close to him who had twice beaten cancer and after the diary of a woman in Berlin under Russian occupation in 1945. Walk That Way. Tuesday, Turn., first shown by BEAST in Birmingham, received a mention in the multimedia category at Bourges in 2008.
