Three works from the decade in which Iannis Xenakis moved from architecture to composition. Syrmos (1959) builds clouds of glissandi from eighteen strings, while Polytope was written for the French pavilion at Expo 67 in Montreal, where four orchestral groups played under a sculpture of steel cables and flashing lights designed by Xenakis himself.
Medea (1967), for male choir and small ensemble, is the stage music for a Paris production of Seneca's tragedy. Ensemble Ars Nova conducted by Marius Constant, a recording first issued in 1969. This is the late 1970s Erato reissue.
