George Adams' first record under his own name for a US audience, cut in one day in New York, 21 December 1979, with Ron Burton, Don Pate, Al Foster and Azzedin Weston. Hard bop, a Sondheim ballad, a Mingus tribute, and the fourteen-minute Funk-a-Roonie Peacock with Adams on flute and voice.

One day at Sound Ideas in New York, 21 December 1979. George Adams on tenor, flute and voice, Ron Burton (the pianist from Rahsaan Roland Kirk's band) on piano, Don Pate on bass, Al Foster on drums and Azzedin Weston, Randy Weston's son, on percussion.

Adams had come out of the last Mingus bands and out of Gil Evans's orchestra. He had made records in Europe, but Paradise Space Shuttle, issued by Timeless and then in the US by Timeless Muse, was his first as a leader to reach an American audience. It is also the album that Chee Shimizu filed under "cosmic" in his Obscure Sound guide, which is where a lot of people found it.

Six tracks, four by Adams. Intentions is hard bop. Send in the Clowns is Sondheim played straight. Metamorphosis for Mingus is the tribute, and the one the Ottawa Citizen singled out for its structure and level of improvisation. City of Peace and the title track are the quieter side. Then the closer: Funk-a-Roonie Peacock, fourteen minutes of Adams on flute, lyrics and voice, which he described as a walk through the parts of a big city where people are dressed a certain way and into a funk mood. AllMusic gave it three and a half stars and heard a spontaneity bordering on informality, with Adams excellent throughout.

Japanese CD edition from Solid's Timeless series.
