One day at RCA Studio A, 13 November 1972. Leon Thomas singing, with Pee Wee Ellis, James Brown's former arranger, running the session on saxophones, keyboards, marimba and, per the credits, coat hangers and firecrackers.

The title nods to Oliver Nelson's Blues and the Abstract Truth, and AllMusic's Thom Jurek says the echo is in the vision as well as the name: a tour through the range of Black American music Thomas could sing, proof that he was far more than the free jazz voice of The Creator Has a Master Plan. Jurek calls it the record to start with.

The cast changes track by track. Bernard Purdie drums on most of it; Airto Moreira and Stanley Clarke appear on the ten-minute Gypsy Queen, the Gabor Szabo tune Thomas turns into a vocal piece; Larry Coryell plays guitar on John Lee Hooker's Boom-Boom-Boom and on C.C. Rider; Cornell Dupree on the funk side, with a horn section including Cecil Payne and Dick Griffin; Neal Creque on electric piano throughout. All About Jazz describes an up, blues-based album full of humour, and picks Gypsy Queen as the example of Thomas's invention. BGP reissued it on LP in 2022.

Japanese CD edition from Solid's Flying Dutchman series.
