CD version. Pianist Matthew Shipp and bassist William Parker have been collaborating on record since 1989. Their first duo album, Zo, was recorded in 1993 and originally released in 1994 on the small indie-rock Rise label. It made such an impression that it was reissued in '97 on Henry Rollins’s 2.13.61 label. It notably includes an epic rendition of the standard “Summertime.”
Recorded at Seltzer Sound, New York, in 1993. Reissue produced by Steve Holtje, with the original liner notes by Steve Dalachinsky and a cover drawing by Yuko Otomo.
