"In many senses, this is a music of distances. We’re listening to the 6000km that resides between the players’ respective locations in Ithaca, USA and Wiesbaden, Germany. We’re listening to field recordings of two separate walks – one in each of these locations, each walk precisely 3km in length – which adopts the role of a “score” within this collaboration. We’re listening to distinct slithers of time, as guitars and electronics are later overlain upon the field recordings, gracing these locations like cryptic sentences pencil-etched on the bottom of polaroid photographs.

Tres Kilómetros is the imaginary zone between these adrifted nodes of time-space, a resident of neither Ithaca nor Wiesbaden, neither the sprawl of the present-tense nor its collapse within the retrospective interiors of memory. It’s a walk that keeps giving way to flights of daydreaming, leading to the illusory intrusions of other geographies and lapses in time. María Bulla and Juan Bermúdez conducted their walks separately. Yet as alluded to in the artwork, Tres Kilómetros creates a space in which the two players walked simultaneously, together.

We envisage them side by side, passing through neighbourhoods of both German and American speakers, the echoes of the indoors overlain with the birdsong of outside, curb-side saxophonists in duet with pedestrians on their mobile phone. Everything is stitched together by those gentle instrument inflections and the leisurely patter of footsteps, through which the disparate is rendered beautifully, gracefully coherent." - Jack Chuter
