Acclaimed 1990 release by Edition RZ, which compiles three significant late works by the Italian composer Luigi Nono. These compositions, written in the mid-1980s, are characterized by their exploration of silence, microtonality, and the spatialization of sound through live electronics. A Carlo Scarpa, architetto, ai suoi infiniti possibili: Dedicated to the Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa, this piece uses an orchestra to explore "infinite possibilities" through microtonal shifts. The recording on this album features the Sinfonieorchester des Südwestfunks conducted by Michael Gielen. A Pierre. Dell’azzurro silenzio, inquietum: A tribute to Pierre Boulez for his 60th birthday, this chamber work focuses on extremely quiet, fragile sounds that are electronically manipulated to create an "inquietum" (restless) atmosphere. Guai ai gelidi mostri: Translating to "Woe to the Icy Monsters," this work was developed at the Experimentalstudio in Freiburg. It is a central piece of Nono's late period, utilizing a unique ensemble to create vast, fragmented "sonic landscapes".
