Recital I (for Cathy) is a theatrical stage work for mezzo-soprano and 17 instruments composed by Luciano Berio in 1972. It was written specifically for his former wife and longtime collaborator, Cathy Berberian. The work is a musical and theatrical montage representing a singer's psychological state during a recital. It incorporates spoken text by Berio (with references to Edoardo Sanguineti and Andrea Mosetti) and musical fragments ranging from Monteverdi and Bach to Verdi and Mahler.
