1968/9 edition on Philips' silver covers "Prospective 21e Siècle" series of the highly evocative 1963 masterful variations for a door and a sigh. Like all Pierre Henry's output, beautiful music and essential record. Green labels.

condition (record/cover): NM / NM Silver foil front and back sleeve. Green labels. Variations Pour Une Porte Et Un Soupir belongs to another Pierre Henry, the one of études and metamorphoses, closer to GRM orthodoxy. A creaking door, a sigh: minimal materials that the composer expands, superimposes, transforms into dramaturgy. The entire expressive range extracted from almost nothing.

The sigh is human, the door is thing. Henry treats both with equal attention, refusing the hierarchy that places animate above inanimate. Musique concrète was born from this democracy of sounds: everything can become material, everything deserves listening. The Philips pressing preserves a lesson that doesn't age. Decades later, sound artists would rediscover what Henry knew in 1963.
