Edition of 300 copies with unique artwork. With obi.
A three-track collaboration released in July 2009 as a 12" EP on Chalk's own Faraway Press in an edition of 300 copies, with the CD version following in 2010 in the same edition size. The material was recorded in 2008 and mastered by Denis Blackham at Skye Mastering; each copy arrived in a sleeve whose original artwork was tipped on by hand, with the result that no two exemplars are identical.
Chalk plays keyboards and bass; Daisuke Suzuki handles percussion and field recordings; Vikki Jackman contributes piano to one of the three pieces (The Water Clock). The partnership between Chalk and Suzuki had begun in the mid-2000s with The Days After (Faraway Press FP 11, 2006) and would continue across Ghosts On Water and subsequent titles. The sound is the warm end of the Faraway Press catalogue: almost blindingly bright where other Chalk records feel cold and distant, closer to the shimmer of late-afternoon water than to drone in the strict sense.
Three pieces totalling roughly twenty-five minutes, fading out in ways that suggest a longer private tape exists somewhere behind each. A small gem from the second decade of Chalk's practice, and one of the more emotionally accessible points of entry into a famously patient body of work.
