A chara is how a letter begins in Irish, "dear friend", and the title points to John Wolf Brennan, the Dublin-born pianist who grew up and settled in Switzerland. His partner is Urs Leimgruber, the Lucerne saxophonist known from the band OM, playing tenor, soprano and bass saxophone.
The duo recorded straight to two tracks on 26 January 1986 at Studio 15 of the Swiss radio in Lausanne. There are four pieces, each between thirteen and sixteen minutes, two by each player: Leimgruber's Friday 12th and For Eleonore, Brennan's Gate Eight and Dance Of Chara. Brennan plays piano throughout, and the composed material opens onto long stretches of free improvisation. L+R Records released it in 1988.
