Absolutely incredible boxed 2LP package from the ever-wonderful Mississippi label bringing together some choice Greek Rembetica - do not miss! Always keeping listeners on their toes, Mississippi Records takes a sharp derivé into the world of underground Greek folk music, featuring 21 fascinating songs about drugs, sex, crime, poverty and heartbreak compiled by Tony Klein. Sometimes called 'Rembetica' and/or 'Greek Oriental Music', this music was the idiomatic folk outlet of Greek musicians in the early 20th century, the story of which is explained in detail inside the extensive 20 page note including archival photos and full lyric translations. Double LP housed in a custom made box. Awesome. - Boomkat.com

This first 2lp-box-set of Mississippi Records offers rare sides of Greek underground folk music called "rembetica" or "Greek oriental". As with every MR release this edition comes in a beautiful packing. The two records ar housed in a box accompanied by a lovely 20-sided-scrap book with detailed liner notes, photos and lyrics translations. According to them the lyrics are about drugs, sex, crime, poverty & heartbreak. The music, as said above, is a mix of traditional greek and oriental music. I like it. This is definitely no stuff for your mp3-thing but for your record player.
