Ghedalia Tazartes

5 Rimbaud 1 Verlaine (10")

** Edition of 300 copies ** Lovely 10" reissue of this memorable & noisy performances of Rimbaud & Verlaine, giving to their poetry the best of tributes. French musician Ghédalia Tazartès is best known for a quintet of albums, dating from his late 70s debut Diasporas to 1990’s Check Point Charlie, whose distinctive and idiosyncratic collages meshed his deliriously mimetic vocals with raw improvisations, crude loops and drones and concrète manipulations of all manner of found and plundered sounds. His smattering of releases since then have haphazardly charted a gradual engagement with song constructs, spanning a number of different genres. 5 Rimbaud 1 Verlaine  shoehorned his vocals into some rather unflattering idiomatic formats, with Tazartès as happy as ever to crunch together mutually exclusive styles, abruptly switching register in typically blithe fashion.

Notes:

Recorded in Paris in his flatelier around the same time he recorded the wonderful Hystérie Off Music and previously available in an almost unnoticed mini CD edition published by the French label Jardin au Fou, it's now available in a remastered vinyl version - with an excellent 45 rpm cut and made by SST in Frankfurt.
