NoBusiness Records is proud to present Incantations, an extraordinary live recording featuring three uncompromising voices of free jazz and spontaneous composition: pioneering drummer Sunny Murray, visionary multi-instrumentalist Arthur Doyle, and the commanding trumpeter Rasul Siddik.

Recorded at Thelonious in Bordeaux, France, on October 21, 1999, Incantations documents a volatile and deeply intuitive musical encounter. Across five performances, the trio creates a world of shifting rhythms, fractured melodies, extended tones, breath, silence, and raw collective energy.

At the center of the recording is Sunny Murray’s unique approach to the drum set. Rather than simply marking time, Murray shapes the music from within, generating a constantly changing field of movement and texture. Arthur Doyle contributes his unmistakable tenor saxophone, flute, and voice, moving between delicate, searching phrases and fierce, otherworldly eruptions. Rasul Siddik’s trumpet adds a sharp, resonant presence, responding to and intensifying the music’s restless momentum.
