Two Osaka institutions, one collision. Hijokaidan featuring Nasca Car pairs the self-styled King of Noise with Nasca Car, the long-running electronic project of Nakaya Koichi, across more than forty minutes of studio and live material.
Active since 1994, Nasca Car has flailed and shrieked its way through the Osaka electronics scene, Nakaya building a restless hybrid of techno, acid house, new wave and psychedelia with a rotating cast of collaborators drawn from the likes of Boredoms, Melt-Banana and Masonna. Set against the dense improvised noise of Hijokaidan - Jojo Hiroshige, Junko and company at full force - the result is a genuine meeting rather than a one-sided assault, the group's wall of sound shot through with pulsing rhythm and circuit-bent electronics. Nakaya has long moved in Hijokaidan's orbit, mixing and recording several of their releases, and that familiarity shows in how naturally the two worlds lock together.
Comprising two studio tracks and two live sets, it is a fascinating sidelight in both discographies. Issued by Alchemy Records in 2015.
