Montreux, 18 June 1971. Gato Barbieri on tenor, Lonnie Liston Smith on piano, Chuck Rainey on electric bass, Bernard Purdie on drums, Sonny Morgan on congas and Naná Vasconcelos on berimbau and percussion. Bob Thiele produced, and Flying Dutchman issued it the same year.
Four pieces and forty-one minutes. The title track, Barbieri's own, runs almost fourteen. Then a Carlos Gardel tango, Mi Buenos Aires Querido, a Brazilian standard, Brasil, and twelve minutes on Atahualpa Yupanqui's El Arriero, the song he would carry through the Impulse! chapters.
AllMusic gives it four stars, its highest rating for any of the Flying Dutchman records, and describes Barbieri leading with hurricane-like flair and pushing at the borders of jazz. Fresh Sound's reissue notes quote a contemporary account of the music pushing the audience back into their seats like an accelerating aircraft.
