Japanese Impulse! pressing of the Village recordings, and a beautiful object all around. Albert Ayler live in 1966-67 with strings, brass and total spiritual commitment - the point in the story where his street-parade melodies and his deepest laments finally meet on equal terms. The band rages and consoles in the same set; "Truth Is Marching In" alone contains more raw belief than most complete discographies. Among the greatest live albums in the whole free jazz canon, and one of the few late-sixties avant-garde records that major-label money actually recorded properly. The Japanese pressing brings out the strings and the room. Recommended without hesitation, at any volume, preferably high.
