Iancu Dumitrescu built his music in Bucharest from the inside of the sound, prolonging single noisy or harmonic events until they open up. Medium II (1978 and 1979) is for solo double bass, played by Fernando Grillo with bow pressure and harmonics that turn the instrument into a grinding, breathing body.
Cogito (Trompe-l'œil), from 1981, adds a second bass (Ion Ghita), prepared piano played by the composer, Javanese gong, crystals and metal objects. Both recordings had been issued in 1982, and this 1987 LP, mastered direct to metal, opened the Edition RZ catalogue. With a German and English insert.
