Original European edition on CBS of the 1982 chamber music composition with a more accessible approach to Minimalsm by one of its main composers, resulting in absolutely lovely music.

condition (record/cover): NM / EX

The crossover record. After Einstein, Glass wanted to make a record that could be heard on a Walkman; CBS Masterworks issued a dedicated Glassworks Sony-format cassette with a separate mix optimised for headphones. Six tracks, none over seven minutes.

Opening is solo piano (Glass at the keyboard), the calling-card that turned up in soundtracks, ballet classes and television commercials. Floe and Rubric deploy the full Philip Glass Ensemble, with Jon Gibson and Richard Peck on woodwinds, Iris Hiskey and Dora Ohrenstein on voice. Islands anticipates the Mishima score. Facades uses the soprano-saxophone-and-strings setting Glass had originally written for Godfrey Reggio's Koyaanisqatsi (cut from the film). Closing loops Opening back into itself for the full Ensemble. European pressing 73640, US issue FM 37265.
